About Woodford Island
Woodford Island is the largest island in New South Wales, in the lower reaches of the Clarence River on the state's far north coast. It is formed where the river splits into the North and South Arms at Brushgrove and rejoins at the town of Maclean, and a mountain ridge runs through its centre, with the rest of the island low-lying flood-prone plains. Among the first places on the far north coast settled by Europeans, attracted by the red cedar, it is now given over to sugar cane, dairying and fishing, and its ridge forest is protected as the Woodford Island Nature Reserve.
