About Lawrence (NSW)
Lawrence is a town on the Clarence River in northern New South Wales, about 13 km from Maclean and reached across the river by the Lawrence Ferry from Woodford Island. Established in 1856, it grew as a river port and once rivalled Grafton, with wharves, a customs house and courthouse serving the cedar and dairy trade. The town now serves a sugar-cane growing district, and the Bluff Point Ferry, the busiest vehicular ferry in New South Wales, still carries traffic across the river. Its museum occupies the former radio station building.
