About Trundle

Trundle is a small town in the Parkes Shire of the Central West of New South Wales, in wheat-growing country. The settlement grew up in the late 1880s on the Forbes to Dandaloo travelling stock route, where the statutory width of 60 metres gave its main street, Forbes Street, a claim to being the widest in the state. First known as Trundle Lagoon, it took the name Trundle in the early 1890s, said to come from an Iron Age hill-fort of that name near Portsmouth in England. Trundle lay on the southern boundary of the traditional lands of the Wangaibon people, and the Bogan Gate to Tottenham railway line, completed to the town in 1907, now carries grain traffic.
