About Newnes Plateau
Newnes Plateau is a high country locality in the Lithgow local government area in the Central West region of New South Wales, a sandstone plateau around 1,100 metres above sea level. It contains Newnes State Forest and the historic Glow Worm Tunnel, built for the oil-shale railway that served the Newnes works in the Wolgan Valley in the early 1900s. The Newnes Plateau cliffs are part of Gardens of Stone National Park.
