About Mudgee
Mudgee is a town in the broad Cudgegong River valley on the western slopes of the Great Dividing Range in the Central West of New South Wales, about 260 km north-west of Sydney and the council seat of the Mid-Western Regional Council. The name comes from the Wiradjuri word Moothi, said to mean 'nest in the hills'. Grapes were first grown there from 1858, and the Mudgee region is now one of New South Wales' largest wine-growing areas, with more than 35 cellar doors.
