About Jenolan
Jenolan is a rural locality in the Central West region of New South Wales, about 28 kilometres south-east of the town of Oberon. The locality is best known for the Jenolan Caves, a famous limestone cave system in the Jenolan Karst Conservation Reserve that forms part of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area. Known to Aboriginal people as Binoomea, the caves were reported by European settlers from the late 1830s and came under government protection in 1866, among the first areas in the world set aside for conservation.
