About Burraga
Burraga is a locality in the Central Tablelands of New South Wales, 47 kilometres south-west of Oberon and about 67 kilometres (42 mi) south of Bathurst, within Oberon Shire. The name is believed to be a settler rendering of an Aboriginal word meaning 'Bitter Swamp'. Copper was discovered around 1877, and the Thompsons Creek mine, bought by Lewis Lloyd in 1879, produced over a million pounds worth of copper by 1900.
