About Arkell

Arkell is a rural locality in the Bathurst Regional Council area of the Central Tablelands in New South Wales, located about 200 kilometres west of Sydney on the elevated tablelands south of Bathurst at approximately 979 metres elevation. Named after Thomas Arkell, superintendent of government stock who established the pastoral property Charlton along both banks of Campbells River by 1839, the landscape features rolling to hilly pastoral country with sheep and cattle grazing on large holdings. The locality includes the historic Mulgunnia property near Trunkey Creek with early vernacular buildings.
