About Tallong
Tallong is a village in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, on the Sydney-Melbourne railway line at the top of the Great Dividing Range, near the town of Marulan. At about 700 metres above sea level, it is surrounded by bushland and orchards, with dairying country in the valleys below. The village was formerly known as Barber's Creek, and the name Tallong is thought to come from a local Aboriginal word possibly meaning 'waterhole'. A local landmark is the railway viaduct over Caoura Creek, also known as Tallong Creek, the highest railway bridge in New South Wales.
