About East Jindabyne
East Jindabyne is a village on the eastern shore of Lake Jindabyne in the Snowy Monaro region of south-east New South Wales. The original township grew from the 1840s as a cattle-crossing point on the Snowy River between the Monaro plains and Gippsland, and a gold rush at nearby Crackenback in 1860 brought more settlement. From 1959 to 1967 the town was moved to higher ground as the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme flooded the old site, and some foundation stones of the original town are still visible when lake levels are low.
