About Delegate
Delegate is a small town in far southern New South Wales in the Snowy Monaro Regional Council area, about 523 km south-south-west of Sydney. It sits on the Delegate River a few kilometres north of the New South Wales-Victoria border. The name derives from an Aboriginal word meaning 'one big hill', and the area was one of the first places of European settlement on the Monaro, occupied by Robert Campbell of Duntroon from 1827. Delegate was the starting point of the Men from Snowy River recruiting march in 1916.
