About Dalton
Dalton is a small country town in the Southern Tablelands of New South Wales, in the Upper Lachlan Shire, about 11 km north-west of Gunning. It serves the surrounding sheep and cattle country and retains the Royal Hotel, a heritage sandstone pub that has served the district for well over a century. A fossil leaf deposit around 21 million years old, preserved when a lava flow dammed the Lachlan River and created a lake over the area, lies beside Oolong Creek.
