About Coombs
Coombs (postcode: 2611) is a suburb in the Molonglo Valley district of Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Located approximately 13 kilometres west of the Canberra central business district on the southern bank of the Molonglo River, it was gazetted on 27 July 2010 and named in honour of Herbert Cole "Nugget" Coombs (1906-1997), a distinguished economist and public servant who served as the first Governor of the Reserve Bank of Australia and as economic adviser to seven Australian prime ministers. Streets and public places in Coombs follow the theme of persons notable for public service. The suburb features walking and cycling trails along the Molonglo River corridor, Holden's Creek Pond, Coombs Park, and proximity to the Molonglo Valley Nature Reserve. Charles Weston Primary School opened in the suburb in 2016.
