About Parramatta

Parramatta is a major urban centre and suburb in the City of Parramatta in metropolitan Sydney, New South Wales, situated approximately 23 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district. The area is the second-oldest European settlement in Australia, established in 1788 as a agricultural outpost by Governor Phillip, and today serves as a major commercial, administrative and transport hub for western Sydney. Parramatta is home to the historic Old Government House, the Parramatta River foreshore and the Rosehill Gardens racecourse.
