About Cheynes

Cheynes is a coastal locality in the City of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, located about 59.5 kilometres east of Albany on the Southern Ocean. The entirety of Waychinicup National Park lies within its boundaries, protecting granite outcrops, coastal heath, and the Waychinicup River inlet, with the coastal heath possibly the most diverse in Western Australia and spectacular wildflower displays in spring. Named from the early colonial period, Waychinicup derives from Nyoongar words meaning emu place, and the park is home to one of few mainland populations of quokkas and the noisy scrub-bird once thought extinct.
