About Neale
Neale is a vast, sparsely populated locality in the Great Victoria Desert of Western Australia. It takes its name from Neale Junction, the remote crossroads where the Anne Beadell and Connie Sue Highways meet, opened in 1962 by Len Beadell's Gunbarrel Road Construction Party. The junction honours Commander Frank Neale, who carried out aerial surveys of the region in the 1930s. The locality also contains the Neale Junction Nature Reserve, and in the late 1800s it was crossed by explorers such as Ernest Giles and John Forrest.
