About Murchison (WA)

Murchison is a vast, sparsely populated locality in the Shire of Murchison in the Mid West region of Western Australia, of semi-arid pastoral country. The Shire of Murchison is Australia's least-populated local government area and the only one without an official town. The locality is home to the Murchison Radio-astronomy Observatory, which hosts the Square Kilometre Array and other world-class radio telescopes chosen for the region's extreme radio quietness, and lies within the historic Murchison goldfields.
