About Cosmo Newbery
Cosmo Newbery is a small remote Aboriginal community in Western Australia, about 1,036 km east of Perth between Laverton and Warburton in the Goldfields-Esperance region, within the Shire of Laverton. Known also as Yilka, it began as a government ration outpost for desert Aboriginal people and later became the Cosmo Newbery Mission, run by the United Aborigines Mission until the local community took over in the 1970s. The community lies beside the Anne Beadell Highway, the remote track crossing the Great Victoria Desert between Laverton and South Australia.
