About Murdoch
Murdoch is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located within the City of Melville approximately 15 km south of the Perth central business district. Established in 1974, the suburb is named after Sir Walter Murdoch, the founding Professor of English at the University of Western Australia and a distinguished essayist. The suburb is home to Murdoch University, which opened in 1975 on its expansive South Street campus, as well as two major hospital complexes: the government-operated Fiona Stanley Hospital and the privately owned St John of God Murdoch Hospital. Murdoch railway station on Transperth's Mandurah Line provides direct rail access to the Perth CBD.
