About Highgate (WA)

Highgate is an inner-city suburb of Perth, Western Australia, in the City of Vincent, about 2 km north of the central business district and the smallest suburb in the metropolitan region. Surveyed as one of the first subdivisions on the north side of the Swan River in 1874, it was named Highgate Hill after a place in England, with development accelerating after the Fremantle to Guildford railway opened in 1881. Victorian-era housing from the 1890s gold boom still survives in the suburb.
