About Cardiff (WA)

Cardiff is a rural town in the Shire of Collie in Western Australia's South West region, situated about 10 kilometres from Collie. Named after the coal mining city in Wales, it grew around the Collie coalfields; the Cardiff colliery operated from 1900 to 1960, and its former open-cut pits now form Lake Kepwari, a recreational lake for water sports.
