About Milltown
Milltown is a rural locality in the Shire of Glenelg in western Victoria, in the forested country between Heywood and Hamilton. The settlement grew up around the sawmilling industry from the 1850s and once had shops, a post office and a railway platform on the Hamilton to Portland line; it is now a quiet ghost town. A sawmill boiler explosion here in 1895 killed two cousins, and sawmills still worked the district into the 1960s.
