About Bookaar

Bookaar is a large rural locality in the Corangamite Shire of south-western Victoria, about 15 kilometres north-east of Camperdown. The landscape sits on the volcanic plains of the Western District, with undulating basalt country and permanent crater lakes including Lake Bookaar, a salt lake and wetland reserve formed between lava flows. The area supports dairy, beef and grazing agriculture in one of Victoria's most productive dairying regions, and the heritage-listed Meningoort Homestead, a bluestone pastoral estate in continuous McArthur family ownership since 1839, is located within the locality.
