About Numurkah
Numurkah is a town on Broken Creek in the Murray Valley irrigation area of northern Victoria, about 37 km north of Shepparton. Surveyed in 1875 after the surrounding pastoral runs were opened for farm selection, it is a service town for the region's irrigated dairy and farming district. The name is thought to derive from an Aboriginal word meaning war shield.
