About Manangatang
Manangatang is a town in the Mallee region of north-western Victoria, about 70 kilometres north-west of Swan Hill on the railway to Robinvale. Its unusual name comes from an Aboriginal term thought to mean land and water, describing a waterhole in the district. The area was opened for wheat farming in the early 1910s, the railway arrived in 1914, and the town was proclaimed in 1915, later becoming a service centre for the surrounding grain farms.
