About Rockbank

Rockbank is a semi-rural suburb of Melbourne about 28 km west of the central business district, in the City of Melton on the Western Freeway. Its name comes from the stone-strewn ground that supplied the dry-stone walls of the district's early paddocks, and the large Rockbank pastoral estate gave the area its settlement. The former railway station and Ward's Chaff Mill, the town's major employer from 1908, are heritage-listed, and the red volcanic soils now support local wineries.
