About Melton South

Melton South is a suburb of Melbourne about 35 km north-west of the CBD in the City of Melton, south of the Western Freeway on the Melbourne to Ballarat railway line. The settlement grew around the railway after the line opened in 1884, with sawmilling and chaff milling as early industries. The station building, relocated from Leeor in 1898, and an 1880 railway viaduct over the Werribee River are local landmarks, and suburban development began in the late 1960s.
