About North Wonthaggi

North Wonthaggi is a residential locality adjoining the town of Wonthaggi in the Bass Coast Shire, Victoria. Established to support the State Coal Mine which opened in 1909, it provided housing for miners and their families. The area transitioned to a residential fringe as the mines closed in the late 1960s and is now an expansion zone for the Bass Coast region.
