About Newry
Newry is a township in the Shire of Wellington, Victoria, on the flats of the Macalister River about 11 km north-west of Maffra. The district was opened for settlement in the early 1860s and the township, named after Newry in Ireland in 1871, grew around dairy farming with cheese and butter factories serving local farms.
