About Cabbage Tree Creek

Cabbage Tree Creek is a small settlement on the Princes Highway about 27 km east of Orbost in East Gippsland, Victoria. It takes its name from the creek that flows through the area, which is lined with cabbage fan palms, a species otherwise found mainly in subtropical rainforests in New South Wales and Queensland. Botanist Ferdinand von Mueller studied the palms in the 1850s, and an 1871 Act of Parliament provided for their protection, with reserves later set aside for them.
