About Tamleugh
Tamleugh is a rural district in the Hume region of Victoria, within the Strathbogie Shire, about 15 kilometres north-west of Violet Town. It is mostly a plain with slight undulations, crossed by the Honeysuckle Creek, with remnant swamps in places. The name is thought to come from Tamlaght parish in Ireland. Farm selections began in the mid-1870s, with a school opened in 1875, a hotel in 1878 and a creamery and butter factory in 1891, before the land proved better suited to open-range grazing; the population fell from 235 in 1911 to 62 in 1961.
