About Goomalibee
Goomalibee is a locality about 15 kilometres north-west of Benalla in northern Victoria, following the red gum country along the Broken River and Four Mile Creek. The name means shady river camp in the language of the Traditional Owners of the area, who formed part of the Pangurang people. Settled as a squatting run in the 1840s, the district later became known for dairying: a creamery built in 1903 processed butter from local farms, and Goomalibee butter, wool and grain found markets in Britain. The local school served the district from 1881 to 1941.
