About Bonnie Doon (Vic.)
Bonnie Doon is a small rural town in the Shire of Mansfield, Victoria, about 168 kilometres north-east of Melbourne via the Melba Highway. Situated on the shores of Lake Eildon, the town was originally established following gold discoveries and was partially relocated in the 1950s when the Eildon Dam was enlarged. It gained national fame as the setting for the Kerrigan family's holiday in the 1997 Australian comedy film The Castle.
