About Swan Island
Swan Island is a sand barrier island lying north of Queenscliff at the eastern end of the Bellarine Peninsula in Victoria, which together with Duck Island and the Edwards Point spit separates Swan Bay from Port Phillip. Named by the navigator John Murray in 1802, the island has been a military site since defences were built in the 1850s, and it is still a Defence training area today, reached from Queenscliff by a single-lane bridge and causeway. Its saltmarsh is a wintering ground for the endangered orange-bellied parrot, and the Queenscliff Golf Club occupies the island's western end.
