About Lara

Lara is a country town in the City of Greater Geelong, 18 kilometres north-east of Geelong's CBD and 6 kilometres south of the You Yangs. The name derives from a Wadawurrung word meaning stone. Hume and Hovell arrived here in 1824, and the town grew around the railway from 1857. Lara is home to the Serendip Sanctuary wildlife park and lies close to Avalon Airport on the Princes Freeway between Melbourne and Geelong.
