About Serpentine (Vic.)
Serpentine is a small town in north-central Victoria, on the Loddon Valley Highway about 201 kilometres northwest of Melbourne and 33 kilometres east of Wedderburn. It stands beside Serpentine Creek, close to where it joins the Loddon River. The area was a pastoral run from 1843, and the township developed after the 1862 Land Act; surveyed as Janiembar in 1866, the name was not retained. Serpentine later served as the administrative centre of the East Loddon Shire and gained a school in 1873.
