About Garibaldi
Garibaldi is a locality in the Golden Plains Shire of the Western District of Victoria, on the lands of the Wathaurong people. The township grew around gold mining along the lead during the Victorian gold rush, before the district settled into agricultural and dairying pursuits. Its main landmark is the Garibaldi Hall on Hardies Hill Road, originally the Garibaldi State School opened in 1879, closed in 1943 and later restored as a community hall, surrounded by Monterey pines planted as a memorial to soldiers of the district who served in World War One.
