About Frenchmans
Frenchmans is a small locality in the Avoca district of central Victoria, between Moonambel and Landsborough. It began as the gold diggings known as Frenchman's Diggings, named after a French miner nicknamed 'French Froggy' who is believed to have sunk the first claim there in the 1850s.
