About Daylesford
Daylesford is a town in the foothills of the Great Dividing Range in the Shire of Hepburn, Victoria, about 114 km north-west of Melbourne. Founded as a gold-mining town in the early 1850s after alluvial gold was found in Wombat Creek, it grew rapidly and by 1859 had a population of about 7,000. The region around Daylesford and Hepburn Springs contains more than 80 per cent of Australia's known mineral water springs, and the town is now marketed as the spa centre of Australia, with restored bathhouses, galleries and guesthouses.
