About Savage River
Savage River is a remote mining locality on the west coast of Tasmania, created as a company town in the 1960s for the Savage River iron ore mine. Iron ore deposits were discovered here in 1877 and the area now supports an open-cut magnetite mine. It is also a gateway to the Savage River National Park, a pristine temperate rainforest wilderness.
