About Boat Harbour (Tas.)
Boat Harbour is a coastal locality on the north-west coast of Tasmania, about 15 km west of Wynyard, surrounding the seaside township of Boat Harbour Beach. Originally known as Jacobs' Boat Harbour, it was named after Captain John Jacobs, master of small Van Diemen's Land Company vessels that traded along this coast between the late 1820s and the 1840s. Potatoes grown in the district were once shipped from its small jetty before the railway arrived.
