About Lune River
Lune River is a small township in south-eastern Tasmania, near the mouth of the river of the same name in the Huon Valley. Timber milling, fishing and small-scale farming shaped its economy from the 1850s. The area is noted for Jurassic-era fossils and semi-precious stones such as petrified fern, agate and jasper, and it is one of the few places in Tasmania where such fossilised material is found. The town is the departure point for the historic Ida Bay Railway.
