About Glen Huon

Glen Huon is a rural residential locality in the Huon Valley of southern Tasmania, about ten kilometres west of Huonville. It sits within the traditional country of the Mellukerdee people, and the district was heavily forested before European settlement. Glen Huon is part of the Huon Valley, which became known as Tasmania's Apple Valley, where orchards established from the 1840s at one stage produced more than half of Tasmania's apple crop. The locality retains a scattering of timber dwellings and farm buildings from the orcharding era, and the surrounding river flats and hills support the valley's continued fruit-growing and agriculture.
