About Youngtown
Youngtown is a residential locality about 6 km south-east of Launceston in northern Tasmania, named after Henry Young, the first governor of Tasmania. It was gazetted as a locality in 1963. The area includes the site of Franklin Village, established in 1837, whose Franklin House, built in 1838, and St James Anglican Church of 1845 still survive. The suburb is also home to a foundry on Hobart Road that traces its origins to the 1830s and is claimed to be the oldest continuously operating foundry in the Southern Hemisphere.
