About Perth (Tas.)
Perth is a historic town in Tasmania, 20 kilometres south of Launceston on the Midland Highway. It was settled in 1821 by Governor Lachlan Macquarie, who named it after the Scottish hometown of the pastoralist David Gibson, and was proclaimed a township in 1836. Many of its buildings date from the early nineteenth century, including the notable Baptist church opened in 1862.
