About New Residence
New Residence is a locality on the left bank of the Murray River in South Australia's Riverland, between Loxton and Kingston-on-Murray, where grape growing and orchards are the main industries. It was founded in 1895 as a government village settlement of 75 people during the economic depression, but the experiment failed after three years. A Lutheran church and the site of a Lutheran school closed during the First World War recall the district's German heritage.
