About Glencoe (SA)
Glencoe is a town in the Limestone Coast region of South Australia, about 27 kilometres north-west of Mount Gambier. Established in 1844 by Tasmanian pastoralists Edward and Robert Leake as a sheep station spanning 53,000 acres, the area is named after the Scottish Glen Coe massacre site. The Glencoe Woolshed, built from local limestone in 1863 and now managed by the National Trust, stands as a key landmark of the district's pastoral heritage.
