About Bookpurnong
Bookpurnong is a locality in the Riverland of South Australia, in the Shire of Loxton Waikerie, on the Murray River between Loxton and Berri. Its name is said to combine Erawirung words for a swimming place and a wide open space. The district takes its name from Bookpurnong Station, a pastoral run that stretched along the river between Moorook and Lyrup, whose homestead stood on the river bank above the site of Lock 4.
