About Ungarra
Ungarra is a small grain-growing town on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia, about 80 km north of Port Lincoln, in the District Council of Tumby Bay. It grew up after the railway arrived in 1909, when mallee scrub was cleared for wheat farming, and in its heyday the town had a bank, bakery, school, general store and two churches, of which the school and one church still operate. The nearby Moody Rock and Tanks, a granite outcrop that caught rainwater for the steam trains, is heritage-listed, and a windmill memorial in the town honours the early settlers.
