About Sceale Bay
Sceale Bay (formerly Yanera) (pronounced "Scale Bay") is a small town 32 km south of Streaky Bay on the Eyre Peninsula of South Australia. The bay was named by Captain Bloomfield Douglas of the South Australian Marine Board in 1858, and the town, proclaimed as Yanera in 1888, was renamed Sceale Bay in 1940. It is primarily an isolated holiday destination, with the population swelling during the summer holiday period; a jetty built in 1910 to serve coastal traders was demolished in 1972.
